2006 Hosted “Sustainable Development” International Symposium at Hokkaido University
2007 Started Sustainability Weeks
2008 G8 University Summit adopted “Sapporo Sustainability Declaration”
Initial meeting of association for ProSPER.Net (Promotion of Sustainability in Postgraduate Education and Research) was held
CENSUS (Center for Sustainability Science) was set up (abolished in March 2016)
Sustainable Low-Carbon Society Creation Project was started (completed in March 2014)
Hokkaido University Inter-department Graduate Study in Sustainability (HUIGS) was started
2009 Special coordinated training program for Sustainability Leaders and Sustainability Meisters (StraSS) was started
Sustainability Tool for Academic Institutions (SUSTAIN) Project was started
2010 Internet forum Global Issue Forum for Tomorrow (GiFT) was started (ended in 2016)

★“Sustainable Campus Contest” of projects by students was started
2011 ★Appointment of full-time faculty member at Office for a Sustainable Campus
★Environmental Safety Center of joint-use facilities inside the university has been transferred to Office for a Sustainable Campus.

2012 Graduate Program for Fostering Frontiers of Practical Solution in a Populations-Activities-Resources-Environments (PARE) Chain was started
★Action Plan 2012 for building a Sustainable Campus was drawn up
★Electric Power Demand Monitoring System started operating
★UNI metrics (Value Metrics and Policies for a Sustainable University Campus), an international joint research adopted by European Commission (completed in 2013)
★Obtained certification from STARS (The Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System) (run by AASHE, the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, in the United States and Canada)
2013 Hokkaido University joined ISCN, International Sustainable Campus Network
Opened NITOBE College, with its special education program

★Implemented Hokkaido Development Association Research Grant “Examination of university campus utilization measures aiming at revival of regional environment – creation of regional resource utilization model at Hokkaido University Sapporo Campus”

East Russia-Japan Expert Education Consortium (RJE3) was started
★Foundation of CAS-Net JAPAN (Campus Sustainability Network in Japan) (Hokkaido University was one of its originators)

2015 Opened NITOBE School, with its special education program

★Operated Asian Conference on Campus Sustainability (at Kyoto University)

2018

★Signed to Communique from the 4th Asian Conference on Campus Sustainability.  at Yonsei University, Shang-hai, China.
